(Reuters) – Production of some MacBooks and iPads from Apple Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 has been postponed due to a global component shortage, as reported Thursday.
Chip shortages have delayed an important step in MacBook production, the report said. Some iPad assemblies were moved due to a lack of displays and display components. (https://s.nikkei.com/3uAZhI7)
As a result of the delay, Apple has postponed some of the component orders for the two devices from the first half of this year to the second half, the report said, citing sources informed of the matter.
Apple didn’t immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
According to the report, Apple’s production plans for iPhones were not affected by the supply bottlenecks, but the supply of some components for the devices is “fairly scarce”.
The lack of components remains a supply chain issue for Apple, but it still has no impact on product availability for consumers, added Nikkei.
Apple’s largest supplier Foxconn also warned of the shortage of chips, which is affecting supply chains for customers. Businesses and consumers around the world are facing the brunt of an unprecedented shortage of semiconductor microchips.
